Home Schooling

 

Home schooling.  What does it mean?  Firstly, Home Education is probably a better title and even then it does not cover it fully. It gives the impression you are home all day with your kids when the reality is you are out and about learning in a range of environments with a range of people in a range of ways.  It's rich and varied.  It's different for every single family across the world.  It often evokes strong emotion for both those who choose to home school and those who don't.

 

So why this website?  Well for me it's about helping to understand why a person might home school, why we do and the all-important sharing of resources, understanding and support.

 

Whatever your choice when it comes to the education of your family, I'm sure you made that decision based on what works for your children and family to give them the best opportunity to grow and develop in their lives in a way that suits each individual best whether it be main-steam schooling or home schooling.

I believe that when the time and space is provided for learning to take place in a way that best suits the child (while also remembering learning is a natural, life-long process - we are born to learn), then great things happen.  We all love to learn (child and adult alike) when it's something we are passionate about and are interested in or is a means to an end.  Yes of course there are some things that we need to learn that we may not be super excited about learning, but we still need to because these things will serve us well throughout our lives.  However, finding a way to teach and learn those things in a way that ties in well with how a child likes and needs to learn is where the power is.  Learning and mastery then takes place which they can then use to change their world and the world they live in and make it a better place.
